Fiddlin’ time…

April 8, 2013 - Author: Jennifer Mylod

Well, my last post – I put up regarding time spots I have open for new fiddle students… brought a few new wonderful, fiddle students into my life… and with that… of course,  lots more fun!   So… with Spring time now warm in the air… I was thinking maybe I’d put another teaser out there for some new students!

In the beautiful, sunny days of Spring,  Summer and even into the cooler days of Fall… I love holding my lessons – out on the big ol’ front porch.   porch 1

A big pitcher of lemon iced tea, thick with fresh mint… the ceiling  fan spinning lazily overhead, and the sweet, earthy scents… that come drifting up from my wild tangle of what I like to call a garden… of flowers & herbs… filling the air.

wild tangle

Then… fiddling out tunes to learn, in the cool, deep shade!  Oh… it’s a glorious way to spend the day… so… ok… Who’s IN?   I’ve got a couple more time spots – open for folks eager to learn!

Also, this summer… my students and I agree… the woodsy lessons I held – last year, at a local camp ground was super fun!  I gave everyone the site #  – where I had my camper set up at… and then ventured out to the woods – and played fiddle all afternoon, around the fire!  It was a fun afternoon, and will return – by popular demand!  🙂   Here’s a clip of the camp…   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nByk9HSSUtk

Learning should be fun, and should leave you with the desire to keep playing!  If you’re interested…  my email is…. here’s the link…

Email me!

and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!

So give me a holler – and let’s get ya fiddlin’ this summer!

A Lion, a Ground hog… and a fiddle

March 25, 2013 - Author: Jennifer Mylod

Well… as they say,   March comes in like a lion…   And who ever the heck  ‘they’ are… weren’t kidding!    Here we are the end of March,  with  Easter – this coming week end… and we’re bracing again  – for another winter storm on the East coast…  with snow starting late tonight… falling all day tomorrow… and continuing into the wee snow

hours… of Tueday morning….     And sure…  everyone’s in an uproar…  pitchforks & knives…  ready to kill Punxsutawney Phil… who supposedly predicted an early spring… (hey, come on now… everyone makes mistakes!!!)  But I really don’t mind…   I have supplies stocked up…  and a sturdy woodshed containing what’s left of 5 cords of good, seasoned wood…  (I’ve probably got about a cord and a half left)  So… all I can say – is… ok… BRING IT ON!   Cause… after Hurricane Sandy… you doesn’t scare me.

So I’ve got a good day’s wood brought in…  resting in the cauldron…  it’s enough to keep the fire burning hot through the day tomorrow.   fiddleI’ve got a new set of fiddle strings to replace the old, flat, burnt out ones… because I really did burn through them – fiddling through the wild St Paddy gig season.  Here’s a wonderful link to a video… taken at St. Stephen’s Green Public House… just last week…  Had the local Irish Step dancing school come in to dance!

The truth be told…  I love playing traditional Irish music… and I am beyond thankful… that the phony – “Green Alligators” and the rest of the schmarmy,  plastic Paddy season- has faded away till next year…  and now remaining… is still – the good,  pure, real… TRUE… heart felt, traditional Irish music and songs  – that ring deeply from the soul – rise from the real joys,  the jigs,  the true love, the reels, the sad partings and pure pleasure… of the Irishman through history & time…

piper

I am SO glad, that things can return to normal life again – away from the green – plastic frenzy, and unbridled behaviors.   And we can be real again  for the rest of the calendar year.   For there is nothing more wonderful for a musician, than bringing music to the REAL Irish music lovers…  who enjoy the true traditional music of the beautiful, Emerald Isle…

So to all our beloved fans, friends and true Irish lovers… Sláinte!!!!   And we’ll see ya at St. Stephen’s Green!

In these frigid, February days…

February 20, 2013 - Author: Jennifer Mylod

The winds of this winter, somehow seem to bite – more than they ever have before… I don’t know if it’s because I have become truly spoiled with the glorious warmth of my woodstove – which I keep running 24/7…  or it’s in fact,  just more raw & cold than ever before.  But one thing’s for sure…  Ol’ man Winter seems to be sinking his teeth in,  just a bit more viciously this year,  and it feels like it goes right to the bone.

snowy morn

The bitter winds, snows & frigid temps – have made me realize the wise hibernating creatures… may have the age old wisdom of what’s good…  because I could sleep this winter away in the deep, soft sleep of a bear… breathing slowly, and deeply… in rhythmic waves, softly rising and falling…  waking only – at the first signs of Spring.

stove & fire

But the days are slowly growing longer…and the nights are settling in a little bit slower as each day draws to a close… and my oil lamps & candles – light my comfy kitchen…  while the blazing fire brings the room into a zone of…  “I don’t want to get out of this big, comphy chair… so I’ll sit here and play fiddle, just a while more”   which is more often – than not.

The days of going out to romp in the snow have come fewer & far between… Of course… I did venture out for some hikes… and walks in the snow… Even found a beautiful fire ring in the woods… and actually danced from the joy of anticipation…  of getting out camping this summer…    after which – I  felt rejuvenated and restored… only to scurry back to the warmth of the fire… clasping a hot cup of tea… as soon as I got back!

snow JM

Perhaps it’s the after effects of Hurricane Sandy… and trying to dig out from under this devastation…  and struggling to recover some semblance of what life use to be…  but all I want to do is hermit… Ha-ha…  more than I usually do.   But really, being a modern day Hermit… is all  made easier with the use of internet…  for – I can have a whole, vibrant existence on Facebook with my wonderful friends far & near… laugh and joke with them,  and write this blog… or emails … and I can still be a hermit… except now you’re onto me!!!

But the coolest thing – is communicating with my good friend & amazing, creative inspiration – Tom White -in NY, who’s producing a 3rd cd for me now.  It is so much easier in this marvelous age of technology… and we’ve probably got “Shadow of a Crow”  over 75% done… and if I must say so myself… it’s coming out – better than I ever imagined.  Tom is a true Master, and has taken the songs I’ve put down for him… and polished them – into something that leaves me wide eyed, breathless… and (almost) speechless… (hah… anyone who KNOWS me… knows I’m rarely – speechless!)  But I anticipate I’ll be posting some clips here soon…  as soon as it’s off to the disk makers!

Also on the newest cd…   I have the same, awesome graphic artist I used for “Mylodic Isle”, and she is creating my “Shadow of a Crow” cover…  Original Abbie  –    She’s come up with the exact feel that I had hoped for – with her graphics… Here’s her link – if you want to check out her site!    http://www.originalabbie.com

So the mp3’s of tunes  –  and the jpegs of samples – are flying back & forth from my studio to Tom at Wizmak,  & Abbie at Original Abbie…   I’m hoping we’ll have this project IN HAND, by early summer… I’ll be posting the cd release party info here…

Brr… be well my friends… and stay warm!    Jennifer!
